AI Statement

I use AI tools to organize very early-stage research BEFORE diving into my creative process.

Claude.ai

I use Claude.ai to organize information that I’ve gathered through user research and interviews. It helps me map the direction of my projects by highlighting information that may relate to the problems I want to address. I do not completely rely on the accuracy of the information and often fact-check and correct things that may not be true.

TL;DV

I use TL;DV, an AI transcription service, when conducting online interviews. It comes in as a bot that records live conversation and summarizes key points from the interview. I take into account what the AI sees as a “key point”, but I also go through the transcript to record notes of my own. It allows me to focus on the contents of the conversation without worrying about missing crucial information.

Personal note:

I do not believe that AI can outright replace designers. The ability to understand what others feel and share those experiences is a magic that only humans possess, and that is where AI comically fails. However, I do believe that designers that use AI as a TOOL will replace designers that do not use it at all.

What I do NOT use AI for:

  • Simulating human empathy and experiences
  • Defining user problems and validating the quality of the solution
  • Designing wireframes and prototypes without a foundation built by humans
  • Late stage design and finalizing products
